Common Dreams Running

“…I am running to you for dear life; the chase is wild. If they catch me, I’m finished…”
Psalms 7:1 (MSG)

Running Dreams

Most of us, at some time or another, have experienced a dream where we are being chased—running to or from something or someone. The question that should commonly be asked is; “What am I trying to avoid, face up to or confront in my waking life?”

More

  • Perhaps there is a literal interpretation to your dream. Your health is not great and you need to exercise
  • A dream where you know you are running, but you are not moving may indicate a lack of traction and momentum in your life. Perhaps you feel unproductive; putting so much effort in yet getting nowhere. A dream like this may indicate the need for patience at a time when you want quick results. It may also relate to poor self-esteem or lack of confidence.
  • Running in a dream may indicate a pressing issue, one that is difficult to face, and you wish to avoid responsibility for resolving or solving the problem.
  • Maybe the lion you are running from in your dream should be embraced due to the lack of courage in your life. ”The wicked flees though no one pursues, but the righteous are as bold as a lion.” Proverbs 28:1 (NIV)
  • Are you running to catch a boat? Perhaps this dream is more about a fear that you may miss an opportunity (miss the boat pun) unless you chase after it.
  • Running in a race may be indicative of your competitive nature or that there is something you need to compete for. If you come first in a running race it may symbolise the importance of your calling and purpose in life.
  • Perhaps you are running with another person or group of people. It is helpful to know who those people are. Where are you running from and where are you running to? Are they friend or foe? The dream may symbolise co-operation, partnership and team synergy. It might also be a caution about being involved with someone. The other person’s qualities and characteristics may be symbolic of similar qualities that appear in your own life.

Life Application

For personal growth you may need to confront things in your life you have been trying to avoid. Instead of ‘running’ from your challenges, your fears, your shyness, your difficulties, perhaps it’s time to confront the things you think you have no strength or confidence to face. When this happens you will find the liberating freedom that comes from no longer running.  You will face the things that restrict your progress and growth and begin to overcome.

“Life without confrontation is directionless, aimless, passive. When unchallenged, human beings tend to drift, to wander or to stagnate.              Confrontation is a gift.”
– David Augsburger
