Common Dreams Test

“Consider it a sheer gift, friends, when tests and challenges come at you from all sides. You know that under pressure, your faith-life is forced into the open and shows its true colours.”
James 1:2-4 (MSG)

Test Dreams

Dreaming of sitting for an exam or working through a test is often anxiety related, questioning your performance or capacity. You may feel unqualified or unprepared for a certain task or challenge in waking life. Perhaps you are overwhelmed meeting other people’s expectations, particularly authority figures such as employer, coach, school principal or parent.

Alternatively, you may have dreamed you did better than expected in the test. This could be an indication you ought to give yourself more credit in life and to not doubt yourself so much.

If you are conducting a pregnancy test in a dream, it may simply reflect a desire to have a baby. Alternatively it might be symbolic for being pregnant with a sense of purpose and vision.

More

Here are some questions you could ask yourself which may shed further light on what triggered the dream:

  • Am I feeling anxious and uncertain about a particular outcome?
  • Have I been procrastinating and found myself running out of time?
  • Even though I have rehearsed and prepared am I still feeling unsure about myself?
  • Am I feeling insecure and unprepared due to a lack of study?
  • Am I questioning my confidence and capacity in the new job or career opportunity?
  • Do I harbour feelings of inadequacy and failure with regards to the challenge that is ahead of me?
  • Am I unfit and unhealthy, which may have triggered a dream of a laboratory, hospital or clinic?
  • Am I comparing myself against others in my work and appearance?
  • Have I made a mistake that has brought about feelings of failure and disappointment?
  • Am I expecting and demanding too much of myself which may be why I failed the test in the dream?
  • Am I reluctant to accept constructive criticism of my life, work or marriage?

Life Application

Your confidence naturally grows though achievement and success. You are less likely to feel insecure when you’re happy about your personal appearance and performance. Planning and preparation reduce the risk of failure and as a consequence increases confidence.

Valuable lessons can be learned from failure and if you respond well to those lessons, failure can often be the platform for success in the future. Don’t be too hard on yourself when things do not work out the way you thought they would. Mistakes are inevitable and part of life, especially when you are beginning with something new or something you’re doing for the first time. The book of Proverbs, which is commonly referred to as the book of wisdom, encourages us to acknowledge our failures and faults and move on.

“A man who refuses to admit his mistakes can never be successful. But if he confesses and forsakes them, he gets another chance”
Proverbs 28:13 (TLB)

“Many of life’s failures are people who did not realise how close they were to success when they gave up.”
– Thomas Edison
